An occupied-home renovation needs a practical plan for how the household will use the home while work is underway. Discuss those needs alongside the design and budget.

Identify the essential spaces
List the bathroom, sink, appliances, work area and entry routes you need each day. If there is only one usable kitchen or bathroom, discuss that limitation before work is scheduled. Do not assume every fixture will remain available throughout the project.

Agree on the work zones
Discuss where materials will be staged, which rooms are part of the work and what needs protection. Keep access to panels, shutoffs and equipment in the plan. Identify areas where personal items and pets can remain away from the work zone.

Selected products and appliances need a confirmed delivery plan. A hoped-for renovation date is not the same as a confirmed schedule. Review availability before booking movers, storage or temporary accommodation.

Demolition, repairs, cabinets, flooring and paint may affect access differently. A combined project should identify the sequence and any temporary limitations. When work changes, review the impact on access as well as the additional scope.
